8 Easy Ways Of Cleaning Dentures

Cleaning your dentures regularly is important not only to maintain your dentures for a long time but also to maintain good oral health. Let us see 10 easy ways to help you clean your dentures at home.

1. Rinse and brush your dentures every day

Rinse your dentures at the end of the day. Gently brush your dentures to clean them. Do not use toothpaste as it can be abrasive and scratch your dentures. However, brushing your dentures every day is essential for their maintenance.

Having said that, avoid brushing them too hard. Use a gentle brush for sensitive teeth to clean your dentures well. You can also opt for an electric brush that works in a circular motion to clean your dentures.

2. Remove food particles from your ‘fake teeth’ after every meal

Do not wait till the end of the day to clean your dentures. If not cleaned properly, dentures can cause denture-related problems like denture stomatitis. While removing your dentures after a meal is not feasible, what you can do is rinse your mouth thoroughly after every meal.

You can use warm salt water to rinse your mouth. This will clean all the unwanted particles and also act as an antiseptic. Saltwater will deeply clean your dentures.

3. Use lemon juice or baking soda

If you want your dentures to shine then you can take some help from your kitchen. Squeeze some lemon juice in a cup of water and soak your dentures for around 20 minutes. If you have a loose denture then do not soak it for more than 10 minutes. Take them out and rinse with cold water.

Similarly, you can use baking soda to remove odours from your dentures and keep them white. Add a few drops of water to baking soda to form a paste and apply gently with a toothbrush. Leave for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse with cold water.

4. Use water or denture cleaning solution

Keep your dentures moist when not in use. Soak your dentures in water overnight. You can also opt to soak your dentures in a soaking solution. However, if there are metal parts in your dentures then it can corrode your dentures. It is best to seek professional advice on which dental soaking solution to use.

Be sure to rinse your dentures in the morning before use. The dental soaking solutions can contain harmful chemicals, not fit for consumption.

5. Leave your dentures in the open

Quite literally, just leave them in the open. If you cannot leave your dentures in water or a solution then leave them in open. Exposing your dentures to oxygen for some time is also good for your dentures. It will help to remove yeast and stop bacterial growth. After all, you would not like to get your dentures treated for cavities or infections, right?

6. Maintain your oral health

Maintaining dentures is not only about keeping them clean. It is also important that you maintain your oral health. In simple words, keep your mouth clean and away from germs to ensure your dentures last longer. After every meal, you can swish fresh water and rinse your mouth thoroughly to get rid of small food particles.
If your gums are not clean and tidy, then your dentures will not even fit you. Brush, gargle, floss, and rinse your mouth regularly. After all, who does not like their mouth smelling fresh?

7. Clean your dentures

If you have removed your dentures then you can use half vinegar and half water solution to clean your dentures well. Once washed with the water-vinegar solution, wash them with cold water. The vinegar and water solution is effective in removing plaque from the surface of your dentures. If you ignore this step then plaque would eventually harden and form the breeding ground of bacteria.

8. Visit a dentist for professional cleaning

While you can take good care of your fake teeth at home, there is nothing that could match professional help. Visit your dentist regularly to get your dentures clean. It is important to maintain oral hygiene and keep dentures clean to avoid any infection.

Ways Of Cleaning Dentures

Seek advice from your dentist. Every case is different and only your dentist could give you the best medical advice related to your teeth.

Remember to take care of the dentures. They are not as strong as your natural teeth, hence need extra care. Make sure to place a towel on your bathroom sink before removing your dentures. You can also fill a bowl of water and keep it where you will be removing your dentures. These steps will prevent your dentures from breaking in case you accidentally drop them.

I can't personally recommend this dental practice enough. I wish I had joined many years ago, the service is second to none! Anubha is always so professional, very reassuring and understanding when it comes to my care and treatment. Wow, what can I say I am incredibly happy with my Enlighten Smile experience!! I was actually with a different dentist based in Leicester and came over to Natural Smiles after I was pushed and pushed to buy products I did not want or even need. I was completely put off until I was recommended to go to Natural Smiles. There was no selling of all the teeth procedures under the Sun but simply asked what I was comfortable doing to perfect my smile and they had my price range in mind.I wanted to have my teeth whitened for years and with my upcoming wedding in July I knew it was time to proceed. I was treated with care and smiling faces from the receptionist to the dentist. They cared about me and gave me guidance from start to finish! I didn't visit the dentist for 17yrs due to a phobia. Although my teeth were okay I had gum disease. I decided to have Invisaligns and 4 veneers on the top set of teeth.
