Can you get braces as an adult?

If you think braces are solely reserved for children and teens, then think again. Braces are in high demand among adults for various reasons, whether that be to correct their bite or improve their smile. Here are some reasons why you might consider getting braces as an adult.

Your teeth can move at any age, even if they are healthy

Even if you’re someone who takes your dental care very seriously, your teeth can still move. This might be due to an injury or simply a result of natural growth, but even if you had braces in the past to rectify a dental issue, you might feel like you need them again. Almost always, braces will straighten crowded, crooked or protruding teeth and to do so will usually need to be fitted for at least 18 months to two years.

They can help you avoid serious dental issues

Teeth misalignment in adults is far greater than in children and teens, and if you have misaligned teeth, you have a greater chance of plaque buildup in between your teeth which can lead to periodontal or gum disease.Straight teeth will also help you avoid tooth decay, gum shrinkage, bone loss, irregular wear of tooth enamel, and facial discomfort.

You might be able to avoid other health issues

If your bite is incorrect, you might be prone to headaches and earaches as well as gastrointestinal problems if you are unable to chew your food correctly. When eating, if you regularly bite your cheek or the roof of your mouth you should seek help from a professional dentist.

They are cheaper and less noticeable than they were in the past

When most people think about braces they probably still imagine unsightly metal brackets. Fear not, braces have evolved since then with ceramic braces being a popular option for adults because they are made from a clear material. Invisalign, a clear plastic, removable aligner, is another cosmetic advancement that is worn over the teeth without the use of metal or wires. Additionally, wearing braces today is less painful and requires less time meaning that you don’t have to undergo as much commitment as before to correct your teeth.

Questions to ask your cosmetic dentist

Over the course of your orthodontic treatment, you should be prepared to ask your dentist questions including which is the best option for you, how to take care of your teeth once the braces have been fitted, how often will you have to arrange a check-up appointment and what the effects will be once the braces have been taken off.

Mostly all adults who choose to have braces fitted, do so to correct something which they believe to be a flaw, therefore, it is rare that they would regret the treatment once it is complete. Booked into Natural Smiles in Corby for a consultation with Viran as one of my crowns was loose and the root was fractured so therefore unable to save it. After a very thorough check up and scans, x-rays carried out, a plan was set up to start me on my way for a new smile to help me feel so much better in my self regarding my teeth. I came to Natural Smiles to see Anisha. For an emergency appointment. Highly anxious and nervous. I was immediately put at ease the moment I walked through the door. Reception staff were extremely friendly. I was then greeted by Katie. Who took me through to the room and introduced me to Anisha. They both explained what was going to happen. I then felt relaxed and at ease. The nursing team was very quick and efficient also kept checking to make sure I was ok through the process. I would highly recommend using Natural Smiles going forward.

I have been with Natural Smiles from the day they opened and wouldn't want to go anywhere else. In April 2020 I was referred to Dr Bhavnish Waghela at Natural Smiles because my top front 4 tooth removable bridge had worn out and was affecting my eating, talking and confidence in smiling.From my first appointment the whole process to replace my old bridge with a fixed unit using my original supporting implants was carried out in a totally professional manner. Natural Smiles have been amazing for me, I was so nervous at my first appointment but they were very calm and reassuring. When I actually had dental work done they were great, my teeth have always made me so self conscious and going to the dentist gave me huge anxiety but by the end I actually looked forward to my appointments! I can't personally recommend this dental practice enough. I wish I had joined many years ago, the service is second to none! Anubha is always so professional, very reassuring and understanding when it comes to my care and treatment. The reception staff are also really friendly and helpful too when it comes to sorting out appointments etc.

Wow, what can I say I am incredibly happy with my Enlighten Smile experience!! I was actually with a different dentist based in Leicester and came over to Natural Smiles after I was pushed and pushed to buy products I did not want or even need. I was completely put off until I was recommended to go to Natural Smiles. There was no selling of all the teeth procedures under the Sun but simply asked what I was comfortable doing to perfect my smile and they had my price range in mind.I wanted to have my teeth whitened for years and with my upcoming wedding in July I knew it was time to proceed. I was treated with care and smiling faces from the receptionist to the dentist. They cared about me and gave me guidance from start to finish! I was able to pay in instalments and came out with a perfect white smile after 4 weeks.I just want to say thank you for being honest people who genuinely care about their patients!I promise you you are in good hands!

I had composite bonding done earlier this year before my wedding and I am so happy I went with Natural Smiles, the bonding is fantastic, it has literally given me a whole new confidence that I didn’t know I had! I didn't visit the dentist for 17yrs due to a phobia. Although my teeth were okay I had gum disease. I decided to have Invisaligns and 4 veneers on the top set of teeth. Dr Waghela put me completely at ease through the whole process which took about a year all together. I'm over the moon with the results. My teeth look so natural. Having spent most of my lifetime in a dental practice, I was apprehensive when I needed private treatment for some dental implants to replace quite a few missing teeth. Dr Bhavnish has been nothing but amazing! He explained the process thoroughly, addressed any concerns and made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole procedure. During this time the amazing staff at Natural Smiles kept in constant contact with me and Kizzy was exceptional and professional in dealing with all of my questions and schedules for treatment.
