Invisalign Aligners are reputed to be one of the best treatments if you want to fix a crooked tooth. The development of clear plastic and lightweight aligners revolutionized the field of orthodontics.
No longer did a patient have to wear bulky metal braces that looked atrocious. After a few months of treatment with a small piece of plastic, they had a a perfect smile.
In keeping with its long tradition of innovation in the field of dentistry, Invisalign has designed SmartForceTM Attachments.
Invisalign Attachments are not always required. However, the dentist may prescribe them if it would improve the outcome of wearing aligners.
What are Invisalign Attachments, and what do they do? We shall provide you a thorough look.
Invisalign Attachments improve the performance of the aligners.
They are small attachments fixed to your tooth with special glue. The attachments are the shape of a small button, and the color is the same as your teeth.
Their purpose is to act as grips on which the aligners can fix themselves. This provides greater pressure and can relieve malocclusions quickly.
These attachments are available in several shapes and sizes. The dentist would choose the one suitable for you.
This is an excellent question. Till now the use of Invisalign Aligners has been restricted.
The dentists prescribed them to patients with very simple cases of a crooked or overcrowded tooth.
Everyone else had to get treated the old-fashioned way. Traditional braces, which came with levers and springs, have been the mainstay of most patients who had some form of deformed teeth.
The clear plastic aligners prescribed by Invisalign did not have sufficient force to move the teeth in many cases. After all, it has very little bulk.
The use of attachments has made it easier to exert more pressure at a particular point of a tooth. This has allowed tailor-made treatment to happen.
Of course, even now, Invisalign cannot cure severe cases, but the attachments have made it suitable for a vast number of patients.
The attachments are tiny. None are more than 5 mm long. Their weight is almost negligible since they are made of synthetic material.
To attach them, your dental care professional would first clean the surface of your teeth.
Then a bonding agent would be applied to the crown. It is the same type of bonding that is used to attach veneers.
Utilizing a template, the dentist would place the attachments at a precise position and insert them carefully.
Employing a small ultraviolet light probe, the attachment would be hardened.
Any excess material is wiped away, and your teeth are cleaned.
After waiting an hour, you can eat or drink as you wish. There is no dietary restriction.
The entire process requires no anesthesia or medication. The material used is a type of composite resin. It does not cause allergy or pain.
Depending on your case, one or more attachments might be required.
The attachment causes no discomfort. However, when the aligner is fixed over attachments, the excess pressure might seem slightly painful to few patients.
At most, the dentist would prescribe acetaminophen tablets for pain relief. In a day or two, the discomfort would disappear as the jaws adjust to the pressure.
You can lead a completely normal life for the few weeks you would have the attachments in place.
Invisalign treatment is the most well-known alternative to braces. It is comfortable to wear and does not make you self-conscious.
Any new innovation is slightly more expensive due to the research and development involved.
The same applies to Invisalign Attachments. A traditional brace can be obtained for less than £1,000. Invisalign Attachments can range in cost from £1,500 to £2,500 depending on the complexity of the case and the duration of treatment.
Does it seem more pricey? You have to consider the context and the benefits. You are fixing a severe problem for a lifetime using a treatment that is nearly invisible.
What you have to understand is that the cost varies a great deal depending on the severity of the problem and the dental practitioner.
However, be assured that it is not only the most straightforward treatment for your misaligned teeth but the gift of a lifetime.
There is no risk as such. All that you would face is little temporary discomfort. This rapidly fades in the first week.
Plaque might build up between the aligner and attachments.
The attachments increase the surface area of the teeth and provide a convenient spot for tooth decay to set in.
You can avoid it very simply. Every day you must care for your teeth by brushing and flossing methodically.
Keep the Invisalign Aligners aside and wash your mouth with tepid warm water. Ensure that you do not consume sugary food that causes plaque to build up rapidly.
There is no pain when the attachments are removed. Dentists have special tools to uproot them. The remainder of the teeth is scaled and cleaned flawlessly.
After the treatment period is over no one would be able to tell that anything was fixed on your teeth.
A big smile is very important for success. If you are haunted by crooked teeth and feel a lack of self-confidence, it is best that you opt for Invisalign Aligners and Attachments.
The entire process is carefully calibrated to create the greatest impact in the shortest time. In less than a year, you would have a perfect set of pearly whites.
A few weeks of slight inconvenience followed by a lifetime of a perfect smile.
