Dental Bridges

Can replace one or more missing teeth, and there are different types depending on your needs, including:

• Traditional fixed bridge: This type of bridge uses two crowns that sit on either side of the gap, serving as anchors to hold the new artificial teeth in place.
• Cantilever bridge: If only one tooth can support a bridge, a cantilever bridge is used. The crown will be anchored to one or more teeth on only one side of the gap.
• Maryland bridge: This type of bridge is used to replace gaps in front teeth when the two teeth on either side are healthy. A replacement tooth is attached to a framework that is bonded to the back of the healthy teeth on either side of the gap.

What Are Dental Bridges Made Of?

Bridges can be made of different materials, including porcelain, gold, and metal, depending on your preference.

What Does The Procedure Involve?

The dentists at our Corby clinic will numb the area beforehand with an anaesthetic. Once this is done, they will prepare the teeth by shaving a small portion away to allow for the crown to be fitted and the bridge to be made. Impressions will be made of the teeth before a personal dental crown is made. During your second appointment, your crowns and bridge will be fitted and cemented into place.

All crowns and bridges are selected to suit your smile and face perfectly, with a wide range of colours to choose from.

How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?

If you maintain good oral hygiene and health, you can expect your bridge to last between 10 and 15 years.

Dental Crowns

Crowns, or caps, are used when teeth are broken, damaged, or fractured and cannot be treated with composite fillings. Crowns can also be used to replace a tooth during dental implant treatment and to protect the tooth after root canal work. Crowns not only restore the tooth's strength but also its appearance.

What Are Dental Crowns Made From, And How Are They Fitted?

Dental crowns can be made from a range of materials, from gold to metal alloys, but most are a mix of metal and a porcelain shell. Once it has been decided that crowns are your best option, your dentist will clean the tooth, remove any decay, and reshape it with a burr to prepare it for the crown. Once this preparation is complete, an impression of your tooth will be taken and sent to a dental lab to create a bespoke crown that fits your tooth perfectly.

During your first visit, you may be fitted with a temporary crown while your custom crown is being made. Traditional lab-made crowns may take around 2–3 weeks, while suitable CEREC crowns can be designed, made and fitted in a single visit. When you return for your second visit to our Corby clinic, the temporary crown will be removed, and your tooth will be prepared with a gentle etching solution to create the ideal surface for bonding. Your new crown will then be securely cemented into place. All stages of the treatment are carried out under local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout.

How Long Does a Dental Tooth Crown Last?

If you take good care of your teeth and maintain excellent oral hygiene, you can expect your crown to last 10 to 15 years.
