CEREC crowns are a popular choice among people to restore damaged teeth. But, when it comes to front teeth, dentists don’t usually recommend it.
However, a CEREC crown might just be what you need. The convenient solution requires expert hands.
In these instances getting a CEREC crown will help to stabilize your tooth and increase its life.
Let’s say that you took a hard fall. Result? A broken or chipped tooth is gnawing at your self-esteem and causing discomfort.
Your dentist will usually not recommend a CEREC for your front teeth because it works most effectively on molars.
But depending on your specific situation and the expertise of the dentist, a CEREC crown can be the right fit for you.
CEREC crown is often made out of a very strong ceramic and is designed, created, and installed using computer-assisted technology.
Hence, you don’t have to go through the process of keeping putty-filled trays in your mouth for several minutes to create the molds of the teeth.
No one likes to spend hours at the dentist’s office. A crown can take as long as 2 weeks.
In one sitting, the dentist will utilize computer-aided design (CAD) and manufacturing (CAM) to take digital photos of your tooth and jaw, design a crown, and then make that crown for installation.
This is perhaps the biggest plus point for most people.
If you are getting a temporary crown, you have to wear a temporary resin prosthetic secured in place with glue.
You have to wear this temporary crown till the dental labs give a traditional permanent cap.
Such temporary crowns are more likely to accidentally fall out as they are meant to be temporary. As a result, your underlying tooth and biting surface are left exposed.
Front teeth with unstable crowns may cause humiliation and frustration.
Same-day crowns, on the other hand, are created and permanently connected in a single office visit.
Careful color matching
Natural teeth come in a range of color tones rather than being uniform.
Crowns made in a lab replicate this effect by stacking colors.
A same-day crown is made from a block of ceramic that is uniformly coloured.
You need a good cosmetic dentist or technician who can use artistic judgment to shade it properly.
This isn’t necessary for your morals as they aren’t visible.
Not suited to all
CEREC isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, and your dentist needs to identify if it will fit you or not.
Under-gum tooth fractures are not protected by CEREC crowns
If your dentist thinks the fracture is below the gum line, he or she could advise getting a traditional crown because the camera used to take photos for CEREC doesn’t work there.
Expensive
Even though the dental procedure can be completed in a single day, CEREC crowns cost extra.
This is because CEREC crowns generate an impression of the crown using computer-based technology, which a conventional crown doesn’t:
Plus, to get CEREC on your front tooth you need to find an experienced dentist.
Hence, you need to find a good dentist that doesn’t overcharge you and gives you a fair price.
You are a heavy chewer
If you clench or grind your teeth frequently, you run the risk of shattering ceramic.
Since chewing is not done with the front teeth, CEREC is frequently more effective there. But if you have the peculiar habit of putting pressure on your front teeth, it is not a wise choice.
Your dentist can provide guidance depending on your unique situation.
You don’t care about how it looks
Unless you look closely, you can’t tell the difference in color with a CEREC crown. So, it might not just matter to you.
If your time is more valuable and having the best result isn’t as important to you as the convenience of one appointment, get a CEREC crown.
Here are some alternatives to look into so that you can make an informed choice.
Bonding
The simple procedure uses a tooth-colored composite resin. It can quickly repair the damage to your teeth.
Dental Cap or Crown
Your dentist can use a permanent crown to match the exact shade, shape, and size of your tooth to restore your perfect smile.
Dental Veneers
Recommended for front teeth that are broken or chipped. The thin shell of tooth-colored porcelain veneer or resin composite material can make your teeth look whole again.
We know how much effect chipped or damaged front teeth can have on people. This article has provided you with enough information to start your own research.
Identify your needs, where you are willing to compromise – time, appearance, or money, and make the choice that is right for you.
